MAY DAY MISHAP

HOW THIS WORKS

• The scene is already a little disappointing, highlighted by the maypole which has fallen over. It's still lying on top of one of the abandoned cars.


• Neal announces that the May Queen is... Rose Chapman? Even he looks a little surprised by this. How did that happen?


• Before the festivities can even really begin, Tal Mitchell jumps on a pile of old railroad ties, causing the top one to fall over. It becomes immediately clear that they were housing a nest of wasps.


• The wasps go on the offensive, and all the students have to flee the field to avoid getting stung.


• Marzio Sarno got the most stings by far, Martin Geary somehow got a wasp down their pants, and Shiloh Sadler got a sting on the tip of their nose. It looks like Iason's going to be busy for a few hours treating everyone.

» the field: There are wildflowers everywhere, and even a couple cases of cheap beer hidden in the cars. Some speakers play whatever top 40 music is hot with teens these days.

» WASPS: AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

» Aftermath: No one likes wasps.

Jude & Sully

Chaos is usually at least a little bit enjoyable, but add wasps to the mix and that rating quickly plummets. The injuries you get aren't even attractive! Red-yellow, puffy things that ache and tingle like static. Sully presses on his swollen cheek, squinting. Funny how quickly Waspocalypse 2019 laid so many seasoned warriors low.

With his one good eye, Sully is able to spot Jude and make his way over. He may look ridiculous, but he's not going to not flirt. Come on. "Mayday. Medical attention needed."

Jude & Sully

Jude is walking towards Justice, ice pack in hand, when he makes eye contact with Sully. He immediately changes course to meet with him in the middle of the complaining, crying sea of students. Sully's ordinarily perfectly proportioned face is looking decidedly lopsided.

"Stop poking it," he scolds. "And sit down."

Marzio & Shiloh

Marzio pokes at this swollen forehead and whines when it hurts, as if he expected any other result. Why did this have to happen to him? He literally did nothing wrong, like always, and now his beautiful face is ruined.

"This is the literal worst thing to happen all year," he says with a dramatic attempt at a pout, except his face is so swollen all he can do is sneer vaguely. Whatever. It's really more about projecting an aura of pouting.

Marzio & Shiloh

Despite having some self-control occasionally, Shiloh appears to have none right now; much like Marzio, he's poking at his sting (just the one, on the tip of his nose). It's definitely not making it better. He bites his lip, knowing logically that he's had worse pain in the Shadow World, but having a hard time reconciling that with the fact that this feels like the worst thing he's ever felt ever. That bird attacking him knew this pain was coming.

"Seriously. Is... do you think Iason will help us? I mean... you look like..." You might die, he thinks, but says instead, "You could seriously use some healing."

Marty & Liam & Waspants

"Can I get a John Madden-style rundown of how this transpired?" Liam crosses his arms for about half a second before he unfolds them and starts gesturing in the air. The recipe for his current expression definitely called for three parts worried to one part exasperated, and he followed it to the letter, hands now hovering uselessly, unsure of what to do.

All the genuine, heartfelt concern in the world could not stop Liam from ragging on Marty, though.

"I'm going to need some diagrams. Circles and x's. Where did the defensive line fail, here?" He gestures at Marty's pants. "Because...?"

Marty is laying on his back in the grass, a safe distance from ground zero. He has an ice pack between his legs, not for the first time in his life.

"Well," he says, tone as conversational as he can manage, "First, I'm incapable of feeling fear. Second, I can't outrun bees." He pauses here, hooking one finger under the leg of his zip off cargo shorts, flapping it a little to show that there's room for a winged invader to fly up, before continuing, "And fourth, it's shorts weather."

HUMAN WASP

"Damn, this party is busted," Rose says from her once-coveted, now desperately avoided, spot on the roof of a rusty car. One arm is resting casually on the fallen maypole; the other is in her lap, idly tapping on a mostly-full can of lukewarm, domestic beer.

There's still wasps everywhere. Someone is crying. She seems bizarrely unconcerned about all of it. All hail the wasp queen.

HUMAN WASP

Neal gazes glassy-eyed at his ruined party with a hollow smile on his face. He has a sting on his left hand that he's ignoring. There's nothing he can do now, after all. He can't protect freshmen from angry wasps, and the chaos is dying down a little. "I should have planned better," he considers. But he won't be defeated! No! Not even by wasps! "Next year will be better!"
