MAY DAY MISHAP

HOW THIS WORKS

• The scene is already a little disappointing, highlighted by the maypole which has fallen over. It's still lying on top of one of the abandoned cars.


• Neal announces that the May Queen is... Rose Chapman? Even he looks a little surprised by this. How did that happen?


• Before the festivities can even really begin, Tal Mitchell jumps on a pile of old railroad ties, causing the top one to fall over. It becomes immediately clear that they were housing a nest of wasps.


• The wasps go on the offensive, and all the students have to flee the field to avoid getting stung.


• Marzio Sarno got the most stings by far, Martin Geary somehow got a wasp down their pants, and Shiloh Sadler got a sting on the tip of their nose. It looks like Iason's going to be busy for a few hours treating everyone.

» the field: There are wildflowers everywhere, and even a couple cases of cheap beer hidden in the cars. Some speakers play whatever top 40 music is hot with teens these days.

» WASPS: AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

» Aftermath: No one likes wasps.

Jude & Sully

Jude is walking towards Justice, ice pack in hand, when he makes eye contact with Sully. He immediately changes course to meet with him in the middle of the complaining, crying sea of students. Sully's ordinarily perfectly proportioned face is looking decidedly lopsided.

"Stop poking it," he scolds. "And sit down."

Sully replies with a soft, gleeful gasp, just the one eye widening. "Are you going to nurse me back to health?"

Delighted by the prospect, he finds an adequate seat on a large old tire and beams as best he can up at Jude. "Treat me gentle, doctor. I bruise easy."

Jude sits next to Sully, a safe five inches apart, but still closer than he ordinarily would be with anyone. With surprising care, Jude touches Sully's chin with one finger, turning his head just so, and then raising the ice pack to his swollen eye. "Then maybe you should do fewer stupid, dangerous things."

"How dare you, Jude Tobin. I could never," Sully responds, sounding taken aback. "It's part of my charm." For all his sass, he moves obediently, and the corners of his mouth tug up into a faint smile when Jude rests his fingers on his chin.

The ice, though, that makes him wince. He sucks his teeth. On second thought, "I will make an exception for wasps going forward."

"Thank god for small blessings, but I know who you spend time with, Sullivan Sinclair." Jude's voice is a distracted murmur as he arranges the ice a bit better, careful not to press too hard. "At least you can cover this injury up with some of your hip shades."

Sully turns his head ever so slightly, better to look at Jude with the eye that willingly stays open. "Maybe I should try out spending more time with someone who'll keep me out of trouble, eh?" The significance of their closeness is not lost on Sullivan. He's quiet for just a beat, enjoying it. "I think I might forego shades. Supports never get cool injuries to show off." Or, at least, people tend to get uncomfortable when you tell them about your magical nosebleeds.
