MAY DAY MISHAP

HOW THIS WORKS

• The scene is already a little disappointing, highlighted by the maypole which has fallen over. It's still lying on top of one of the abandoned cars.


• Neal announces that the May Queen is... Rose Chapman? Even he looks a little surprised by this. How did that happen?


• Before the festivities can even really begin, Tal Mitchell jumps on a pile of old railroad ties, causing the top one to fall over. It becomes immediately clear that they were housing a nest of wasps.


• The wasps go on the offensive, and all the students have to flee the field to avoid getting stung.


• Marzio Sarno got the most stings by far, Martin Geary somehow got a wasp down their pants, and Shiloh Sadler got a sting on the tip of their nose. It looks like Iason's going to be busy for a few hours treating everyone.

» the field: There are wildflowers everywhere, and even a couple cases of cheap beer hidden in the cars. Some speakers play whatever top 40 music is hot with teens these days.

» WASPS: AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

» Aftermath: No one likes wasps.

"Actually, I think there is." Marty props himself up on one elbow, opening his eyes to fix Liam with a too blue gaze. He manages to keep a mostly straight face until he asks, "Kiss it and make it better?"

There's about two seconds of Liam being sure he'd do anything in the world for that boy when Marty levels his gaze at him. Then he goes and opens his mouth. Liam groans, and it's not to cover a laugh. He is absolutely not laughing. "You're the fuckin' worst, you know that?" Okay, now he's laughing. He shoves Marty's shoulder. God, he really needs to go see a doctor to fix this hopeless infatuation. Or maybe get himself lobotomized. "Shitlord."

Liam shoves him, and he lets it knock his elbow out from under him. His shoulders hit the ground again and he's shaking with laughter. He almost recovers, until Liam calls him shitlord, and he starts cackling all over again, unable to even manage a smart ass response. Once he can finally breathe, he wheezes, "I'm feeling much better, now."

"Ah, I hate you." Liam says, but he's also bending down to kiss Marty on the corner of his mouth. "Reprobate."

"I know," he replies with an insufferable grin. "Don't even know what that word means."

"It's a synonym for shitlord." Liam informs him, dropping down and stretching out into the grass beside Marty, close. He stares up at the sky, quiet for a few seconds before he starts to laugh again. "Cannot believe you got stung on the dick by a wasp."

Marty scoots closer, just enough that the sides of their arms are touching. "Shut the fuck up, it's not funny," he says, through barely contained laughter himself.

Liam lets his head loll to the side, staring at Marty's profile with a bright, adoring smile. He slides his fingers over the back of Marty's palm and with what is, at first, a grave sort of seriousness he says, "No, dude, it's pretty fucking funny."

Marty shifts his hand enough so that he can lace their fingers together, and replies, "Shit, you're probably right."
