MURDER ON THE FINCHWOOD EXPRESS

For the final time this year, the gym has been transformed for a dance; this time, it's a murderous train, along with train station and platform! Upon entering the gym, students find themselves in a train station filled with (pointless) columns, benches, and a destination board with random Haling Cove destinations. A few paces in, a freestanding arch opens up into the rest of the gym. A newspaper stand off to the side contains old time-y looking news papers with the headline 'Finchwood Express's Maiden Voyage.' The paper is mostly filled with lorem ipsum, but the article accompanying the headline has been written by freshmen. It lists Gregory de Leon as a famous private detective that will be on the train, along with the rich (but horribly ugly) railroad owner [Character B], and "very murderable" actor/actress [Character C].

Walking through the freestanding archway leads to a train platform that's clearly the dance floor. Smoke spills across the floor from all the steam engines that are operating out of this station, and lights overhead give the impression of filtered sunlight (with some colored lights and a disco ball for fun.) The music tonight is pretty all over the place, but one song that just keeps playing is a little dated. Who keeps putting this on?? (It's [Character D]).

The rest of the gym is taken up with a train built by the hardworking theatre tech crew and shop students! Most of the cars sport only three walls and are much wider than a car would actually be, but who cares? Each contains some seating and maybe a photo op or two, though two in particular are special. The main attraction is an engine car spewing smoke from a smoke machine in its chimney, but there's also a dining car that contains a bar with a few signature mocktails, food, and lots of booths for the travelers to sit at. Martin Geary offers discreet shots from their flask to some of their classmates until a freshman yells "Poison!", grabs it from them, and takes off running. Get back here!!

About halfway through the dance, the music cuts so that the prom court winners can be announced by Neal Valentine and Venus Rosales! Winners have to come up on stage to get crowned, and they're asked to share a dance with their winning partner. But they can't make you. The freshmen will boo you if you don't, though.

When it's time to go, students file out of the gym in their fancy dress. It's a pleasantly warm and clear evening, and it's really a shame they have to head back to their dorm rooms. Maybe if they walk a little slow they can hold onto the simplicity of the evening a bit longer.

HOW THIS WORKS

• The theme of prom is Murder on the Finchwood Express! The dance begins at 7:00 PM and ends at 11:30 PM. Then everyone must return to their dorms.


• There is a "bar" where student council members and volunteers are making mocktails for the guests. While none of it is alcoholic, the drinks are served in cute glasses with convincing garnishes. The menu is:
  1. Murder on the Orient Express. Chocolate syrup, hazelnut coffee, non-alcoholic Irish cream, grated chocolate on top.
  2. Death by Not Gin. Elderflower cordial, lemonade, non-alcoholic bitters (they don't trust the bartenders with real bitters).
  3. Amber Moon. Water, vanilla extract, raw egg, and Tabasco sauce.
  4. Murder Train. Sparkling grape juice and grenadine.

» Before the Dance: It's time to get ready! Even though you're probably all gussied up, be sure you're ready for some murder too!

» The Train Station: Upon first entering the gym, the area is set up to look like a nice train station - there are pillars (that hold up nothing), nice benches, and a small archway to walk out through that leads onto the platform (aka the dance floor).

» The Platform: A large area has been set up to look like a train platform, with the clear purpose of being the dance floor.

» The Dining Car: The bar and snack table have been encased in a roomy fake train car, where there are booths to sit in while you dine or drink. Sadly, no real alcohol is being served, unless you slipped a flask in to spike your mocktail.

» Train Car Photo Ops: As with the other dances, there are various photo ops placed throughout the gym. There's one at the engine car (you can lie on the tracks in front of it, if you want), a few different looking train cars, and a stack of luggage in an ornate sleeper car that has the tiniest bed you've ever seen (and no privacy - don't try anything funny).

» Prom Court Winners: About halfway through the dance, the music is cut and the prom court winners are announced! Come up on stage and get your crowns! Please don't give a speech!

» Murder Afoot: A game has been set up so that students can really get into the murdering spirit. Results of each round of the game will be posted here.

» Around Campus: Some people have decided to opt out of the dance, so they're free to enjoy the quieter-than-usual campus.

» The end of the night: It's been a long, fun night, but it's time to rest.

Pansy is getting help from Monet with her outfit before the dance and then I imagine will want to do photos with Senior Swords (either before the party or in the photo booth). She'll be very happy that Suzy won Prom Queen (the better of the two on their ticket), but will happily engage in any complaining with Justice if she wants. Mostly, she'll be bouncing around, dancing, drinking, talking, playing the murder game.

Gregory will lose his mind when he sees Dallas and Merry at prom together. In theory he's here with Yvie. Or maybe he's not, which is also very funny to me. Maybe he just thinks they're here together and is going around the party all night politely asking people if they've seen his date. He's honored to win Prom Duke, though he feels a little bad Cecilia didn't win on her birthday. Very excited for him and Mason though :)

KYRA is here w/ Marina and is so happy for Hadlee and Venus and will be getting a lil cloak/dagger with the prom game, will also please dance with everyone.

SLADE's date is the prom game and I would like some kind of shenanigans with squex or sophomores with that and he's going to be bloodthirsty

Adam is here and dressed to the nines, but will oscillate between enjoying himself and looking like he wants to be somewhere else. He's in a weird mood and avoiding Justice like the plague but will inevitably cross paths with her and be awkward. He's extremely pleased that Suzy won prom queen, though! ♥

Dallas is here with Merry and still doesn't know if this is a date-date or a friend-date. He's generally keeping his cool, though, and wants to show off with her on the dance floor. He's bummed that Cecilia didn't win Duchess, but also happy that Gregory and Mason are now Dukes~

Selby is here with Russ, happy to be here, and trying to stay out of the way of murderers~ Sorry you didn't win, Russ, but he still thinks you're a king!

Henry is here with Cecilia and PUMPED to party with the rest of the school. He's all about this and wants to have a good time. He's playing in the murder game but should be taken out early because he's an idiot. :)

Donovan is here and mostly enjoying himself, but he's also quietly salty that Cecilia ended up asking Henry instead of him. Not that he cares. He doesn't care.

lucy can be seen on the edges of things looking like this is a witch funeral, not prom (dress minus hat, lace veil). she will permit some dances and fond memory-making, because the ambiance is tolerable and uh... y'know maybe she cares about some of you people. WHATEVER. her ultimate goal is to dip on outta here with a certain someone. she no longer cares if you notice so, like. just don't even say anything about it.

Cecilia is here with Henry! It's her birthday! She's taking the theme way too seriously and is using an okay at best trans-Atlantic accent most of the night. She's going to have way too many hazelnut coffee drinks and get a little too invested in the murder mystery game. 🗡️🗡️🗡️ When she's not dancing with Henry and her friends, she's stalking around looking for prop weapons and opportune moments and totally NOT Donovan.

dustin's clothing is less appalling than expected and his face says "i'm having a perfectly pleasant time," which! he is! altho tbh, he's not that interested in the whole senior prom experience thing b/c he's a pretentious freak, so probably catch him uhhhh sneaking out the backdoor about halfway through

rose is happy for venus and hadlee, both of whom probably dressed her for the day, but also? feeling predictably defensive of nora. she looks very pretty :( and will be behaving badly :) as per usual. don't be fooled by her respectable outfit b/c ya girl definitely smuggled a flask in her bra. might volunteer to bartend again? also, she's never heard this song before b/c she's not 50000 YEARS OLD but she def thinks 'c'mon 'n ride it' is a bop

petra is here with tal (?friend date?) and she's WICKED underdressed, but you know what? she looks cute in her own way, ok. she voted for her roommates for this prom silliness, but she doesn't take this stuff very seriously, so she's not gonna get secondhand assed up or anything. if soph shenanigans pop off, she will, unfortunately, probably be in the mix.

junior wants to party with his squad 6 "friends," but also thinks maybe he should be avoiding them as much as possible when he sees they didn't win prom court stuff, so catch him intermittently hanging AND hiding, lol.

Flint is here with Scout, and wearing the exact same suit he's worn to every dance so far this year. He'll stay long enough to see who gets crowned (and then give his congrats to all six of them bc they're his faves :c), then he and Scout will sneak out. B)

Noah is here with Eli, in a signature flashy outfit. He's here to dance, have fun, do a prom murder, and likely get very distracted from prom murder.

Tal is here with Petra (friend! date!), and has reluctantly passed over a tuxedo sweatshirt in favour of a fairly casual dance-appropriate outfit. She is also here to do a murder. She's not very stealthy. Also magnetically attracted to any sophomore disasters.

Blake is here with Lee, wearing a knockoff of a much nicer dress and a flapper headband in a meager attempt to fit the prom theme. She's somewhat hesitant about ~going to prom~ but may end up really getting into the prom game. B)

okay, i finally exist (i just got back from seeing endgame - which is both an all-day affair and emotionally exhausting for my poor, soft, nerd heart) and i've maybe totally definitely have some brain cells left in my head that work. yup.

ANYWAY.

ces is here with pearl. (who is a QUEEN, you guys!!) and is absolutely wearing this spangly jumpsuit. with a neon blazer over it that she only put on to make scout feel better about her cleavage and then lost five seconds later. she will be very happily dancing with everybody that isn't nailed down!

and quincey is probably sleeping on a couch in his empty common room. what a time to be alive.

Neal is here with Atticus, and he's on and off ignoring responsibilities to pay attention to Atticus since he feels bad neglecting him on Prom Night.

Eli is with Noah but it's not like they're dating don't worry about it.

Zinnia is here with Mason, and shows little interest in kissing him but does make everyone who says hi to him acknowledge his crown.

Yvie is hiding from Gregory, why is he so awful? Why does no one else realize how creepy he is? Has she lost her mind????

Jude is with Sully and trying to Act Normal and Not Weird. He keeps looking like he might try to hold Sully's hand but that's very ambitious.
