By Tuesday night, it's becoming readily apparent that Francesca Salazar is sort of running out of time on this whole promposal thing. Not that she hasn't been planning. Or that she hasn't had an idea for a while. It's just - it isn't exactly ready. The idea. Oh, all of the pieces are there. But they aren't as neat (as beaded and feathered and dyed) as she usually prefers.

But it's practically Wednesday and Prom is actually Saturday so she sends out an over-quick, over-eager string of text messages amounting to little other than: 'are you busy??' 'can you come to my common room??' 'it's TOTALLY okay if you can't!' 'oh! i almost forgot: ❤❤!!' and then settles herself onto a couch to wait and not stare at her phone screen a whole lot.

There's a beat up acoustic guitar settled in her lap - which she totally got from Susan in exchange for agreeing to do her daughter's hair for church on Easter Sunday - and she isn't very good at using it, if she's entirely honest. It's the first thing out of her mouth when Pearl arrives, actually. A hasty rush of words tripping over themselves and caught between her teeth as they dig into her bottom lip, "I'm totally sorry! It's definitely still awful, honey, but I'm like super out of time - so? Yeah? Just - hold on like a sec -"

And then her fingers start plucking out a slow, not entirely uneven accompaniment to a quiet rendition of 'With a Girl Like You' that definitely isn't ruined by the crookedness of her own grin and a deplorable inability to stop giggling before she even reaches the part where she gets to say the "Can I dance with you?" bits.

Pearl's life has been taken up in the past few days by trying to choose what song she should sing for Ces, and also for ensuring the sleepy Atticus was provided as much discount Easter candy as he deserved. (All of it.) She had been a little wondering if she should just wing this and drag a piano to the common room. But this.

She wasn't expecting this even a little, and for Pearl, that's a strange thing. And for once, she's rendered completely silent for several straight minutes. She sits at Ces's feet, and stares up in awe, and films her on her phone, and starts singing in on the bababas, and lets her get through exactly half the song before she attacks her face with kisses that mean yes duh.
