VALENTINE'S DAY DANCE

The red carpet has been rolled out at Finchwood, and the decor does its best to distract you from the fact that this is still taking place in the gym. Banners proclaim that this is the Oscars ceremony, and for the first part of the dance freshmen mob the red carpet. [Character A] answers the freshman reporter's questions with grace as camera flashes go off in the background. [Character B] on the other hand says or does something terribly embarrassing by accident, which a freshman paparazzi catches on camera.

Inside there are elegant tables to the left, a dance floor and stage to the right. Once everyone is settled, Venus Rosales and Neal Valentine take the stage as the hosts of tonight's award ceremony! They give a banter-filled speech about how the night will go, and wish all these talented actors and actresses luck! Thalia Mitchell (and their band/partner if applicable) gets the night started with a cover of a Hollywood classic, and now it's time to party!

Throughout the night, Sabrina Lane is continuously assailed by paparazzi freshman who didn't get the memo that they only had to play this part for the first few minutes. Meanwhile [Character E] visits the refreshments table where Rose Chapman is "bartending", whether or not they have clearance. The drink they make is... suspect. Gross.

After the awards are given out, students file out of the gym in their fancy dress. The night is cold but clear, and the stars overhead are bright. Their lives might be complicated, but tonight was very silly and simple.

HOW THIS WORKS

  • The theme of the dance is old Hollywood glamour! The dance begins at 7:00 PM and ends at 11:30 PM. Then everyone must return to their dorms.

  • At the end of the night, some students will be awarded Oscars if they pose for photos! The categories are: Best actress, best supporting actress, best actor, and best supporting actor! These will be chosen via RNG. Just make sure you reply to the Nominee Photo Op header to qualify! ♥ (You must have replied to this header by Monday, February 18th at 11:59pm CST.)

  • There is a "bar" where student council members and volunteers are making mocktails for the guests. While none of it is alcoholic, the drinks are served in cute glasses with convinging garnishes. The menu is:
  • All night, the music played is from Hollywood's golden age, and the lighting is dim and romantic. A plush red carpet leads to the stage, and the dance floor around it is mellow and romantic.

  • One corner of the dance has a projector set up as a tiny theater, with chairs set up in rows. On the projector, movies like Casablanca, Breakfast at Tiffany's and Singin' In The Rain are being screened.

» Before the Dance: It's time to get ready! Be sure you look your most glam for the red carpet.

» The Red Carpet: Students arriving at the dance must walk down a red carpet, lined with freshmen asking them questions about their relationship and taking tons of photos. Awkward!

» The Bar: Just inside and to the left, there's the reprieve of a bar and table. Sadly, no real alcohol is being served, unless you slipped a flask in to spike your mocktail.

» The Dance Floor: Classic romantic songs play through the speakers tonight. It's not a very up-tempo dance, but it sure is classy.

» Movie Screening: Would you rather enjoy a Casablanca than cut a rug? This tiny makeshift theater is for you. The movies are being projected on a white sheet, and chairs have been arranged in front of it.

» Nominee Photo Op: Anyone who poses for a photo on stage, be it alone, with their date or in a group, could win an award tonight!

» Awards: And the Oscar goes to...

» Around Campus: Some people have decided to opt out of the dance, so they're free to enjoy the quieter-than-usual campus.

» The end of the night: It's been a long, fun night, but it's time to rest.

"Josie." He argues, pretending he hadn't heard her argument at all. He would probably start calling her by her full name, if she insisted. But she's always seemed more like a Josie. He pulls her closer after she spins out, arm on her waist, leading the dance with more confidence than he's earned. Lyle's hardly a dancer by trade, but he's not bad.

"And you're only saying that because you're also an altruistic genius."

This is solely to embarrass her, at this point, and his grin shows it. "If they were really smart, one of them would've snapped you up by tonight."

"Incorrigible," Josie responds with a sigh that suggests she doesn't actually care all that much. If she did, she'd try harder, but sometimes it's nice to just let things be the way they are.

"Oh my gosh, you're terrible, you know that? I don't know where you get all these crazy ideas." Despite her continued scolding, she does fall into dancing with Lyle. It doesn't come as naturally as it does on skates, but she's not about to step on his toes, at least. Unless it's on purpose.

"And speaking of snapping up, where's your cute date?" She cranes her neck a little to look around, genuinely curious about Sully's whereabouts. "I like him, he's so friendly."

"Crazy ideas?" He looks offended, but is truly delighted. "Who, me? I haven't got the slightest idea what you're talking about." He does. And he'll stand by them. "You are. And I'm honestly surprised there isn't a fake drink named the Josie tonight."

It's good music to dance to, though maybe a tad on the romantic side instead of the disco music at the last party. They couldn't all be perfect. Lyle strains for exactly one second to find Sully, and then shrugs, again, rather unconcerned. He'll gravitate back to his date at some point. "Oh, I like him too. He has a lot of friends, I'm sure he's there. And I specifically requested a dance or five with you, he'll understand."

"Maybe when I grow up there'll be a real drink named after me. I think that's the highest honor you can get in life, right?" She laughs. "Mine'll be a splash of champagne in sprite. And with the rest of your champagne and the rest of your sprite you can make a Lyle, a splash of sprite in champagne."

Josie spends a little bit more time looking for Sully than her friend, but she abandons her quest without actually locating him. "He does have a lot of friends. There are so many good personalities at this school." It's part of the reason she loves it here - good people, fighting to do good things. How could you not be enchanted by that?

Turning her attention back to Lyle, Josie laughs again, "I get you for five whole dances? Do I have to take them in bulk, or can I spread them out?"

"When you grow up?" Lyle catches the phrase, and tilts his head to the side. This isn't as easy as it is on skates, but his feet are nimble, if nothing fancy. He picks his way through the other couples. Not a foot to be stepped on tonight, if he can manage. "You don't have to wait close to that long, that's your signature drink already. Every time I even see Sprite, I want champagne to go with it."

He separates long enough to pull back dramatically, and then back in again. "And you? You can take them however you want them. It's five minimum. Are you having a good time?"

The responses come a little spitfire, but that's just Lyle.

Accustomed to Lyle and all of his quirks, Josephine listens intently, taking in the questions and comments as they move along the dance floor. She does really wish they were skating instead of just dancing, but, oh well. She follows his lead as he pulls back, smiling.

"Right now it's an illegal drink, though, given our ages. So, when I grow up," she pronounces, trying to shift her expression into a serious one as she does so. "I'm not an illegal drink kind of gal."

She quickly melts back into a smile. "Goodness, five minimum. Well, maybe I'll have two now to get me going, then, and I'll pepper the rest through the night. And I'm having such a good time. Are you?"

"It wouldn't be illegal in France." He happens to know off hand. "We're just so entirely sophisticated that we're always there in spirit, and that isn't our fault, Josie." There's honestly and actually nothing sophisticated about Sprite in any form but he ignores that.

"I'm having a great time. Of course I am." He answers, like it's a foregone conclusion. And she, of all people, knows it is. "But I was led to believe my Persona would be dating someone tonight. I hope he's not lonely."

"Maybe I'll just move to France, then, after all of this." Oh, even just joking about it has a laugh bubbling up in Josie that's almost mischievous, like she's done something wild by just voicing the thought. "Since I'm there in spirit, anyway."

There were no real concerns that Lyle wasn't having fun, of course, but it's nice to hear it confirmed. She steps on the edge of one of his shoes, just a little, intentionally. "Poor sweet Hahahel. I'm sure he'll be alright, though. He's a strong one. Maybe he can have a playdate with Lelahel, to make up for not getting a real date."

Lyle looks like he's going dreamy again, idly imagining Josie rollerblading down a little Rue with a baguette and possibly a dog with a beret under her arm. It's very in character, and suddenly it is all he wants for her. "You should." He can't quite project this image, but it sure seems like he's trying. "I could come visit you. Josie, we could have champagne parties. That'd make Hahael so happy."

Josie watches Lyle, always enjoying when he goes off into his own world. He looks so peaceful, and she knows what amazing things often come out of these creative wanderings.

"You don't want to move to France, too? Hemmingway lived there. Regardless, I'd love to have champagne parties with you. And I'd love to make Hahahel happy."
