"Uh. Sort of," Eli admits, but it's whispered as though someone might overhear them. He seems pleased all the same, like what he's saying has no consequences.

Eli loves Noah's touch and leans into it. He doesn't even mind the reminder that Noah isn't his and never will be. "I worry about it with everyone. That's why I told you early. To see if it'd scare you away, or make you think I wasn't your thing anymore."

"Everything's my thing, birdy," Noah says, but his voice is soft instead of arrogant, and his hand is gentle on Eli's head. His thumb brushes the curve of Eli's ear, which isn't freckled, unlike the rest of him. It's charming.

Noah should be more careful. He should've been careful the first time around, when Eli told him. But Noah isn't the type to think about consequences, especially when Eli keeps smiling at him. "Someone here probably would date you, you know. A lot of handsome ladies and beautiful boys in your year."
