Dustin's heart is beating so fast that he can feel the flutter in his thumbs, in his neck. Maybe Lucy can too. It leaves him dizzy, seeing stars in a way that only ever happens late-late at night and even then, it's rare; Dustin is well-suited to his house and, at his worst tends, to react with a syrup-weighted slowness. Sooner to drown with his eyes wide open than to physically bolt away.
Now, as Lucy's fingers press against the back of his, he wonders what the hell is wrong with him, that he'd ignore so obvious a sign to stop. He can't think of anything worse than this: the brush of her legs, her look on her face, the warm wave of a feeling too terrible to name. It's all very nice, and he'll pay for it later, he thinks as he smiles too and kisses her more deeply this second time.
