There's no reason to assume that. Correlation does not necessarily imply causation. As ice cream sales rise, so too does the rate of drownings. But ice cream doesn't drown people. Warm weather makes people want ice cream and want to swim. There was already something strange about the lighthouse/cathedral. It drove you to want to investigate. There's no evidence that your investigation caused the abduction just because there's a correlation.
