I mean I don't know because I'm immune to the feeling of shame, but I get it. But I think most people enjoy feeling helpful, especially when it comes to their friends. I'd bet if you asked gardening club for volunteers to help with responsibilities while you're recovering, you'd have more people than you have tasks.
