Scout feels very deflated suddenly. This is a rejection of sorts, and even if the blow is softened by the 'Mr. Thoroughgood' that Flint hasn't been calling him recently, for some reason, it feels worse than he figures it should. Even so, he has a surprising amount of control over himself, so his expression remains relatively neutral.
